Detroit looks to be the hands down best team in hockey. The Penguins can't generate anything. As a Penguin fan it has been a miserable two games to watch.
Big Brown is still gonna win. Don't beleive the stories about his hoof. He is fine.
The Celtics are soft. The Pistons are old. The Lakers need to stay focused. The Spurs need the Lakers to be unfocused.
Phil Jackson just complained to TNT at the end of the 1st period about the officials. Here's to having enough money to not care about paying the fine.

Finals Set
Well the Stanley Cup Final is set. Pens vs. Wings. Two very good teams. It will be a heck of a series. I can't see anyone beating the Penguins but I am completely biased so I'll just say I can't wait to watch!
ARod is back watch out American League. He could be the spark the Yanks need. Of course he can't help with the pitching. They need Posada back so bad from both sides of the team(offense and defense). Maybe he jist works a little magic with the pitchers. I mean the guy has four world series rings.
Don't beleive the hype in Casino Drive. Big Brown is gonna dust him like all the others. THE MAN has to do this kind of marketing to get some money on some other horse. You can't make no money on the overwhelming favorite unless you're willing to bet an enormous amount. And why straight bet on any other horse. Big Brown, Big Brown, Big Brown!

I Told Ya
Big Brown is a monster! That's what the jockey on the second or third place horse called him. I tried to tell you from the beginning. Well after the Derby it was pretty predictable wasn't it? Make sure you and everybody you know is in front of the TV in three weeks cause history will be made at the Belmont Stakes.
How about them Celtics? The Cavs almost beat them and I still think the Cavs are grossly undermanned. The team out of the East will be easy pickins' for the West champ. You heard me right. The Cavs were all Lebron. It is not enough to win a championship. That team needs another scorer on the level of a Pau Gasol or a Paul Pierce or even a David West. Dump Ben Wallace he is played out. As for the Celtics you can't play to the level of your competition and expect to be the champs. You need to take it to another level. Start by winning a road game. The Lakers on the other hand have the look of a team on a mission. Going into Utah and winning was huge. Watch out for LA.
The Penguins appear to be unstoppable when they want. Two lackluster games in these playoffs have led to two losses. Don't give the Rangers and Flyers any credit for beating the Penguins once each in their respective series. If the Flightless Birds would have just stayed focused they would be undefeated.
I am going to see the Yankees at the Stadium for the first time ever in June. I hope my impending visit isn't jinxing them.

Gettin' Caught Up
Lots has happened since the last time I blogged. The Penguins are kicking the Flyers tail all over the ice. The are beating them at the physical game and on the scoreboard. It couldn't be happening to a better team.
The Cavs, Jazz, and Spurs have showed a little life and are making their series respectable. Don't like to see the games getting so physical. That's not how basketball during the season was played but now it seems that every game there is a hard foul with or without ejections. Clean it up boys. Here's hoping that the best player in the game, Kobe Bryant is doing a lot better and can play 100%.
This will be the year for the Triple Crown to be won. If you caught my blog before the Kentucky Derby than you know that I correctly picked Big Brown to win the race. Now I am willing to go so far as to say that he will absolutely win the Triple Crown. So if you are looking to bet and win then you are going to have to pick an exacta or trifecta cause nobody is beating Big Brown.
How about my Pittsburgh Pirates and the Florida Marlins. The Pirates are on a 6 game winning streak and the Marlins have the best record in baseball.

Back in the Saddle
Aside from the tragedy at the Derby on Sunday it was a good weekend to watch some sports. The horse I predicted, Big Brown did win the race. And now I am willing to say that barring any unforseen circumstances, He will be the first Triple Crown winner in what? 30 years. Aside from Eight Belles he beat every other horse by 10 to 12 lengths. It's OVER!
My Pittsburgh Penguins moved on to the next round with an overtime win in game 5 over the NY Rangers. Evgeni Malkin should be the league MVP and he could be a contender for the Finals MVP if they make it that far.
The NBA Playoffs are really shaping up now that some of the pretenders have been dispatched to look for mid round draft picks. Cavs/Celtics looks like a great series. Can the big 3 stop Lebron? I think so. Kobe is unstoppable, sorry Jazz. Detroit/Orlando could get physical especially now that I just watched the end of game 2 and the Pistons are up 2-0. The best series of the playoffs so far is the Spurs/Hornets. Hornets won the first game at home which could be a wake up call for the Spurs or theses Hornets could be for real. Right now the Spurs are up one at the half of game 2. Go Hornets!
I'm going to watch the game.

Asleep at the Wheel
Haven't published in a while, trying to change the layout of the blog unsuccessfully. I'll figure it out.
The Pens played an uninspired game last night. My prediction is that they come out on Sunday like their rear ends are on fire. Game. Set. Match.
The 76ers gave the Pistons more of a tusssle than I expected. Still the Pistons move on but don't expect big things from them this year they are too old and worn out.
If you like betting on the derby take Big Brown. He will win and it won't be close. At 3-1 you can still make a little bit of money. Don't take a chance on a longshot cause it ain't happening.

Awesome Sunday Lineup
If you've got chores to do you better get them done early because the lineup for todays sports schedule will keep you rooted to the couch. Whether you are a fan of hoops, baseball, football, golf, racing, hockey or whatever today is your day.
The NBA has a quadruple header to day with four awesome games going on. I can't even pick one as the headliner. My main interest will be Hornets /Mavs later this evening. My prediction is that Chris Paul (my MVP) will right the ship and get this important win on the road. Look for the game to be a little chippier as they say after the hard foul by Erick Dampier on Paul at the end of the last game.
As for the NFL Draft I was really surprised by my teams first pick. The Steelers took a running back first and I surely thought that they were going to fill their most glaring need and take an O-Lineman with the 23rd pick. I guess they were surprised that Rashard Mendenhall was still available at that time. I am excited though because now they have the one two punch that seems to be the trend these days.
As for hockey what can I say about my Pittsburgh Penguins. That first game against the Rangers sent fans through the full range of emotions. Down 3-0, I was hoping to at least see a good fight between Georges Laraque and Colton Orr but it turned out the Penguins gave a better reason to cheer. What an unbeleivable comeback.
Is anyone else tired of hearing the opposing coaches talk about Sidney Crosby flopping. That penalty call on Martin Straka was so obvious that it had to be called. If you are a hockey fan you know that referees tend to sit on their whistels near the end of games especilly when it is tied. Now that the Penguins are up watch what kind of play Sean Avery comes out with. Avery the dirtiest player in the NHL as voted by his peers. I'll bet coach Tom Renney stops his whining about dirty play.

Sports Report
So the Dallas Cowboys want Pacman Jones huh? That makes 2 kegs of explosives they'll have on the roster. Everything has gone well with Terrell Owens since the team has been winning and he has gotten the ball a lot. He has been a model employee. Here 's hoping everyone does a good job and it enhances the Cowboys chances this winter. Some teams wouldn't even consider taking on someone of that ilk. The Steelers are an example. They are THE franchise to look up to in this area. Personally I think that this situation is a future headache waiting to happen.
The Penguins get the New York Rangers and Jaromir Jagr. The media is making such a big deal out of this. The Penguins better be focused on one Sean Avery also. He is a tone setter. He will be finishing all his checks and getting under the skin of everyone wearing a black and gold sweater. He's already annoying the hell out of me! If Gary Roberts is able to play the whole series it could just be that he evens the Avery factor out.
The Miami Dolphins signing Jake Long is a fabulous move. He is the type of offensive lineman that will be a strter for a decade. You can't put a price on that.(Although He did) I can't think who their quarterback is right now and that is probably a problem but you can't pass on Long. I watched him a couple of times on TV last fall and he appeared to be a man among boys. Just dominant in college.
PS The Hornets vs. Lakers would be an unbeleivable series!?!

Too Much
There is almost too many games to watch. I can't beleive I just said that. The NBA Playoffs are cranked up from the get go. Still waiting for the opponent to be named for the Penguins in the NHL Playoffs. Plus I,m still watching as much baseball as I possibly can.
Kyle Farnsworth's suspension of 3 games is absolutely ridiculous. If he had hit Manny and injured him then no problem. One game would have been sufficient. And since we're on the subject of Manny Ramirez, is anybody else sick of hearing the excuse that, "That's just Manny being Manny. Granted he is one of the best hitters in the game today but I'm surprised someone else hasn't plunked him for real.
The New orleans Hornets are the real deal. That was a playoff battle tested team that they came back against. Dallas is definitely past its prime but the comeback was very inspired. Chris Paul is the man. He took over that game and he as much as told them that he was gonna do it and there was nothing that they could do about it. It was very Jordanesque.
Denver stinks and the Lakers, if they stay focused should just put them out of everyone's misery. Kobe got the "other" scorer that he wanted and it has made everyone on the team better. The lakers vs. The Celtics isn't that much of a long shot after all.

NBA Playoffs
Just got these predictions in under the wire. In the East I like Cleveland in 6 games over Washington, Boston in a sweep over Atlanta, Detroit also in a sweep over Philly, and Toronto upsets Orlando in a n epic 7 game struggle. In the West I like Houston with the upset over Utah in 7 games, San Antonio in 5 games takes out the Suns, New Orleans in 6 over Dallas, and LA over Denver in 5 games.
I'm being generous to Denver giving them 1 game. As far as watchability goes, the NO/Dallas series might be the best. Look for the MVP candidates to shine even if all the voting is done.(KG, Lebron, Kobe, Chris Paul) If I had a vote it would be so close between Kobe and Paul but I would have to give the nod to CP because he brought this team out of nowhere to the playoffs. Kobe is definitely the best player in the league, sorry Lebron.
Looks like my Penguins are going to be playing the Rangers. The NHL Playoffs are where fans learn to hate other teams. For instance I hated the Ottawa Senators for all of last season. The sweep over those bums and their crybaby coach has helped me get past that. I can definitely feel some hostility building up against the Rangers. Washington has a chance to play the Penguins also if they can come back in their series.

Let's Go Pens
The third period just started and the score is 2-1 Pittsburgh. The Pens are playing good but they really have to step up and close this one out. Catching some baseball on the MLB Extra I nnings package. It has to be one of the best things that television people ever thought of. At $200 bucks its a little to expensive but its hard to live without.
The NFL schedule is out and the Steelers have the hardest schedule. That's OK by me, if you wanna be the best you gotta beat the best. What I can't stand is the odd times for the games to start. I like 1PM starts all the time. Night games go to late for me. I wake up every day at 5AM, by 10PM I'm ready for bed.
The end of the NBA regular season is today. I live in a town without an NBA team so I root for a different team all the time. Kobe Bryant is the best player in the league I think so I will be cheering for him. But I think overall the team I would most like to see win it all is the New O rleans Hornets.
Talk about bad timing. Carmelo Anthony getting a DUI near the beginning of the playoffs has got to be one of the more moronic things he has done. Hopefully it won't be a big distraction for the rest of the team.

Quick Post
Just checking in for a short time. Gonna watch the Yankees and some hockey. What a great time of year to be sports fan. NBA playoffs coming up, I will have a great set of predictions for these. Also coming up is the NFL Draft. My Pittsburgh Steelers don't pick till late in the first round but I'm still interested in what seems lke a pretty deep draft.
How about my Bucco's! Big winning streak. Nate Mclouth is awesome and my fantasy team still stinks. Back with more soon.

Sunday Sports Day
Just read the news about Sean Lee's knee injury. This is a devastating blow for Penn State football. He is one of the top ranked football players in the country. JoePa will find somebody to throw in there and they will be serviceable but not comparable to Sean Lee. The good news for PSU fans is that the very drive and determination that made Lee the athlete he is today will get him through this and make him even better the following year.
How about them Penguins! Two dominating performances have propelled them to a 2-0 series lead as they take their show on the road. The Malkin-Sykora-Malone line has been awesome as a expected and so has Marc Andre Fleury. I look for the Crosby-Hossa-Dupuis line to explode sometime soon. Crosby had 4 assists last game so he is making things happen. It is just a matter of time till the puck starts going in for this line.
The Yankees Chien Ming Wang pitched a heck of a game the other night. This is the type of pitcher this guy can be. Everyone needs to forget about last season's playoff collapse. That was just a blip on the radar screen.
Nate Mclouth for the Pittsburgh Pirates is having a phenomenal start to a season(for the Pirates anyway). He has an 11 game hitting streak. Now if they can get the rest of the team to start giving some productive plate appearances maybe they can win some games. You can brag all you want about the great young pitching prospects you have but it won't translate into wins unless you can hit the ball and give these young guns some leads to work with.

Timeout
While still getting as much baseball in as I can, I will need to be rooted to the Pittsburgh Penguins quest for the Stanley Cup. With 2 of the top 3 players in the world on the same team along with heavyweight enforcer Georges Laraque it should be quite a fun series to watch. The opponent is the much despised Ottawa Senators with their also much despised coach. Go Pens!
On the baseball front I have been watching many games. My fantasy team stinks and I am already purging the roster. Couple of teams look good to me at this early stage. The Kansas City Royals(I did say early), the Atlanta Braves (pitching rules) and the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners need to get their closer JJ Putz off the DL though.

Baseball Junkie
Watching a lot of baseball the last couple of days. I have that package from the cable company where I can watch all the games every night. Since my Pittsburgh Pirates are usually mathematically eliminated by the end of April, it comes in handy.
I'm one of those fantasy baseball guys so I flip around so I can watch my pitchers pitch and my batters bat. This usually goes on until I am mathematically eliminated from my fantasy league somewhere around May. Then it's all about watching good baseball.
My picks for the playoffs are as follows:AL East-Red Sox, AL Central-Cleveland, the AL West-Seattle, and the wild card will be the Yankees (to much talent to keep out). In the National League East I like the Phillies, in the NL Central I'll take the Cubs, and the NL West I like the Diamondbacks with the Mets getting the wild card.
The game's coming on I gotta go!

First Game
The first game is about to start over in Japan at 6:05AM. I'll get to see about ten minutes before I go to work. Don't like that the Red Sox and A's play these games and then come back to continue playing spring training games but I'll take what I can get. I'm looking forward to a very exciting season.
I am attending a game at Yankee Stadium this summer for the first time. I had to get to the most famous ballpark before they tore it down. They play Toronto in June so that will be cool. I've been to Fenway, old Cleveland, the old Tiger stadium, Atlanta-Fulton County, Three Rivers, Jacobs, Camden Yards, PNC Park, and Skydome. There is still alot that I would like to see and Wrigley moves to the top of the list now. While I am in New York the Mets are out of town but I will try to get over to see Shea before they tear it down.
I will make my predictions in an upcoming post and one thing I will never discuss in my blog is steroids. I am completely sick of hearing about that.

Busy, Busy, Busy
In the middle of all the traditional holiday running around. The Pitt Panthers lost last night an the Penguins won. I can live with that. Looking orward to catching a little NBA action today or tonight. If the Lakers can get healthy all at once, then that is who I like out of the West. I don't think anybody can beat the Celtics in the East especially in a best of seven series. The Pistons weren't good enough last year and they didn,t upgrade any for this year so don't even start with that. As for Cleveland, Lebron is the best player in the East and he can carry them far but that team needs another scorer so bad it's unbeleivable. Sczerbiak ain't the answer. It's like the management for Cleveland doesn't know what it is doing. Ben Wallace is a decent pick up on the defensive end. Houston was a flash in the pan. San Antonio has a great chance. They always get properly motivated around this time of year.

Easter Weekend
I'm off the weekend and have a lot of plans. Friday will be my daughter's 10th birthday party with the family. Saturday we will spend with the inlaws for Easter dinner. Sunday we will go to my Dad's house for another dinner.
All the while I will be trying to sneak in a couple of basketball games on television. Since I am a from Pittsburgh I am a fan of the Pitt Panthers. I don't think they will go all the way like Bobby Knight does but I'll be rooting for them. As of this post they already made it to the second round. My Final Four is North Carolina UCLA Kansas St. and Texas.
Speaking of watching sports, this may be the best time of the year. I am a fan of all sports and love watching the NBA playoffs, the beginning of baseball season, and the Penguins as they go through the NHL playoffs.
Bought this new laptop last Thursday and the letter T has already fallen off. Taking it to Best Buy tomorrow where I bought it to see if they can fix it. It is a Sony VAIO and I am very impressed with it's performance.

Baseball
Well its a week or so till the start of the baseball season and I am pumped up. I'm a life long Pirate fan but have been so discouraged by what is going on with them that I have been looking around for someone else to root for. The leading candidate is the New York Yankees. There is always a lot of excitement around them. I have to admit that I got caught up in the hype surrounding Joba Chamberlain.
Also happening here in PA where I live is the upcoming Primary. I think I would like to vote for "none of the above" but I don't think that will be an option.
Gotta go and watch the best hockey team in the country, The Pittsburgh Penguins.
